Our Activities

At Solange Rising Star, we are dedicated to creating impactful programs that empower survivors and foster community transformation. Explore our key activities below:

1. Survivor Empowerment through Art

We use art as a powerful tool for healing and self-expression. Through workshops, exhibitions, and performances, survivors channel their stories into creative outlets that inspire change and raise awareness.

2. ECHO Rehabilitation Program

Based in Meme Prison, Kumba, this program transforms offenders into advocates against violence. By addressing the root causes of harm and promoting personal growth, we work to prevent recidivism and foster accountability.

3.School Clubs for Awareness

We engage young minds through school-based clubs that teach about gender equality, consent, and respectful relationships. These clubs nurture future leaders committed to ending violence in all forms

4Youth Talent Shows

Our talent competitions empower young people to showcase their skills while spreading messages of hope and resilience. These events combine entertainment with advocacy to create lasting social impact.

5.Safe Spaces for Healing

We provide confidential support groups, counseling services, and healing circles where survivors can share their journeys, build confidence, and find community.

6.Advocacy and Outreach Campaigns

Through public campaigns, workshops, and partnerships, we educate communities, challenge stigma, and inspire collective action to combat sexual and domestic violence.

welcome to 2025 updates

We successfully hosted a conference in Kumba, Meme Division, bringing together women, men, persons with disabilities, mayors, and community leaders. Our dynamic speakers led thought-provoking discussions on:

Women’s rights and empowerment
Effective social media use for women
Women’s health, focusing on sexual and reproductive rights
Education for the girl child
Good parenting

I also shared insights on community support for women and GBV victims. Our event offered high-quality education, tackling root causes of violence, challenging patriarchal systems, and empowering women.

At SRS, we’re committed to partnering with institutions that share our vision to stop rape and GBV, and challenge harmful stereotypes. Together, we can create a safer, more equitable society!” #StopGBV #EmpoweringWomen #CommunitySupport

WE’VE LAUNCHED OUR ECHO REHABILITATION PROGRAM! 🎉

We are glad to announce the successful launch of our ECHO Rehabilitation Program on Tuesday, 22nd at the Kumba Principal Prison!

Our first lesson focused on profiling, an essential step that will help us better understand and support survivors through the information gathered.
The launch was graced by key stakeholders, including:

  • The representative of the Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs,
  • Prison Superintendents,
  • The Prison Social Desk,
  • A representative from the Delegation of Basic Education Meme (who also serves as our SRS Board Chair).

We were honored to have members of Women’s Corner Association present, who showed tremendous support to the inmates during their performances  Dance, Comedy, Music, Special Songs, and Speeches  all creatively weaving in the message “No to Rape.”

A highlight of the day was the Superintendent’s impactful speech. He emphasized the relevance of this program, noting that over 68 out of 300 inmates are incarcerated for sexual offenses.
He passionately urged all inmates to join the awareness sessions, stating, “Some of you are here for other crimes, but that does not mean you have not committed acts of sexual violence  you just weren’t caught.”
He led an inspiring interaction with the inmates, asking the Questions from our roll up

  • “What is Remorse?”
  • “What is Redemption?”

He concluded, “Change will only come when you accept your crime, feel remorse, regret genuinely, and seek redemption.”

The event ended with refreshments and a light snack to entertain the inmates.

On Wednesday 23rd, my team and I returned for the profiling session, which took over 4 hours a deep and emotional process as we learned about their backgrounds.
Some inmates have been imprisoned for 2, 8, 9, even 13 years. While some admitted their offenses, others still denied the allegations  reminding us that our mission is not to judge, but to redeem and guide them toward positive change.

We also faced the reality that some inmates are awaiting trial or have uncertain sentences, which challenges our initial plan to focus on those with about a year left before release.
Nevertheless, we will adapt and reshape our approach based on feedback and realities on the ground.

👉 This is just the beginning.
Our next session will take place in two weeks, and we are determined to keep building hope, responsibility, and transformation among these inmates.

Special thanks to: Haëlla Stichting, Kanthari, Changemakers, Kumba Principal Prison, LIMPS, LIDIT, Young Shall Grow, Justice and Peace, Banks Premium your support makes this journey possible!

🌍 Transforming Pain Into Power – Through S.U.R.E.

At Solange Rising Star (SRS), we believe every survivor has the power to rise and lead. Through our S.U.R.E. intervention (Survivors Uplift for Restoration and Empowerment), we support survivors of gender-based violence and those indirectly affected to heal, grow, and become leaders.

Our flagship program, Kacherkatan (meaning butterfly in Bayangi), stands for transformation. Like a butterfly, survivors go through painful stages before they rise. Today,26/06/2025 we proudly celebrate two powerful women graduates of our training who are now founders of their own organizations.

🌿 Elyon Association for Life Nurturing – Buea
Led by Bright Manyor, a survivor and medical laboratory professional, Elyon works to make childbirth safe, reduce maternal deaths, and promote reproductive health.
Their flagship program, “The Baobab Tree”, stands for life, shelter, and nurturing.

🥥 Awhellaa – Kumba
Founded by Wandie Mengwi A., a survivor and advocate for blind persons and those with disabilities, Awhellaa means “Who is there?” in her Bafanji language—a cry for help from those often unheard.
Their flagship program, “The Coconut Core”, represents survivors and blind persons who are strong on the outside, full of value within. It is a healing and empowerment journey to turn silence into leadership.

Both Elyon and Wandie completed our training, which included:
✔ NGO setup and leadership
✔ Fundraising and proposal writing
✔ Storytelling, advocacy, and public speaking
✔ Inclusive education and entrepreneurship
✔ Health and rights-based approaches

As a Kanthari India alumna, I am proud to pass on what I’ve learned. Together with LIMPS enterprise  kumba we are building a network of survivor leaders across Cameroon.

E.C.H.O. (Empowerment, Change, Healing Outreach) Program

*Survivors and Perpetrators: An Unlikely Path to Redemption*

As a survivor, I know the pain and trauma can be overwhelming. But what if we could change the narrative? What if we could empower survivors and give perpetrators a second chance to make amends?
*The Idea Takes Shape*
During my studies at Kanthari India, I envisioned a program that would bring together survivors and perpetrators in a journey of healing and accountability. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I believed it was possible.
*The Reality on Ground*
Fast forward to our team training, where emotions ran high as survivors reflected on their experiences. Some couldn’t hold back tears, but our shared values of justice, accountability, and empathy kept us moving forward. We learned from a human rights activist and a psychologist, preparing us for the challenges ahead.
*Authorization and Partnerships*
With authorization from the Prison Superintendent, we’re excited to launch our program at Kumba Principal Prison. We’ll be working with 20 perpetrators, but only 10 will graduate with genuine remorse after completing our 1-year curriculum and questionnaires.
*Our Goal*
We want to tell the world that everyone deserves a second chance. By speaking out, we can break the stigma surrounding serious crimes and create a safer community. Join us in this journey of empowerment, change, and healing.
*The Countdown Begins!*
As we launch tomorrow, April 22nd, we invite you to follow us for updates and insights into this pioneering initiative. Witness the power of redemption and healing as we work towards a brighter future.

From Dust to Voice*
I still remember the pain and hurt inflicted upon me by my own community, fueled by ignorance and selfishness. But today, I’m proud to say that I’ve risen above those struggles. I’ve become a voice of wisdom, a voice that changes minds and reverses inclusion where women lead.
Recently, I visited my rural community after 12 years, about 98 km from the city where I now live. As I walked through the familiar streets, I was met with a mix of emotions. I saw young girls, barely 14 to 21 years old, with babies in their arms, and my heart sank. But I also saw an opportunity to make a difference.
I had the chance to educate some notables and villagers about the importance of protecting our girls and women’s rights. I shared my story, and they listened. I saw the realization dawn on them, and I knew that change was possible.
Our Kacherkatan program embodies this transformation – from caterpillar to butterfly, we empower survivors to rise, spread their wings, and fly.
As I left, I felt a sense of joy and fulfillment. I’m not just a survivor; I’m a change-maker. I’m proud to be the founder SRS a movement that’s unifying voices to end sexual violence.

My heart beats for a Cameroon where our children grow up free from the shadows of rape and sexual violence. As the founder of Solange Rising Star, I’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact of ignorance and silence.
My experience working in prison opened my eyes to a harsh reality: young boys, locked up for rape and other crimes, simply because they didn’t know better. Ignorant of the law, ignorant of sex education, and ignorant of the consequences of their actions. They grew up in total ignorance, fueled by arrogance and a lack of guidance.
That’s why we’re taking action. Recently, my team and I ventured into the Mukete Camp community, where there is a cries for help . We met young boys and girls, full of life and potential, yet unaware of the dangers that lurk in the darkness. We knew we had to act.
We gathered the children and identified trusted contact persons – community leaders who would be our eyes and ears. We’ll train them to handle rape cases with sensitivity and without judgment prioritising privacy and care. Together, we’ll teach the children how to defend themselves, how to spot danger, and how to seek help when needed.
We are survivors, ready to serve our communities. But we need your support to reach more children and make a lasting impact. Here’s how you can help:
– Transportation to and from communities
– Training materials and resources
– Small gifts for the children after training sessions
– Support for communication means
– First aid help for new cases reported to our focal persons
If you’d like to contribute to our mission, please consider supporting us. Your donation can make a real difference in the lives of these children.
